Modern Mrs. Darcy Challenge

a Newbery Award winner or Honor book
My first choice was Bud Not Buddy because it was one of my favorite books as a child and I have a copy of it on my bookshelf. I decided on When You Reach Me because I put it on my tbr list back in 2014 and thought this category was the perfect excuse to make it a priority.

a book in translation
The Shadow of the Wind was a really easy choice for this one since it's the book club pick for Beyond Words in the month of January. 1/26/17 4stars

a book that's more than 600 pages
Sometimes I don't know why long books intimidate me so much because two of my favorite books (the goldfinch, a prayer for owen meany) are on the long side. If I'm feeling brave I might finally attempt something by Stephen King. Otherwise probably The Luminaries because I started it once and liked it, but wasn't able to get very far into it before it was due back to the library & I've put off picking it up again because of the length- 800+ pages! Also considering Middlemarch!

a book of poetry, a play, or an essay collection
I'm thinking Fences or We Should All Be Feminists

a book of any genre that addresses current events
Evicted or Unfair because I love non-fiction in the social sciences.

an immigrant story
The Radius of Us | 1/5/17 - 3.5stars

a book published before you were born
The World According to Garp (1978) I made myself wait a year before reading another book by Irving because I'm afraid nothing will compare to how much I loved Owen Meany.

three books by the same author
Maybe Tana French, but right now I'm leaning towards Fredrick Backman.

a book by an #ownvoices or #diversebooks author
Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe I came across this when I was searching for the read harder challenge, and thought it sounded really good.

a book with an unreliable narrator or ambiguous ending
Behind Her Eyes | 2/16/17 - 4stars

a book nominated for an award in 2017

a Pulitzer Price or NBA winner
The Underground Railroad | 2/9/17 - 4stars
