A Few Things & A Question

Happy Wednesday! It's already the last week of October, which makes me feel less bad about putting up our mini Christmas tree last week. The holidays go by so fast, I like to enjoy the festive things for as long as possible. I'll wait until this weekend to put more of our decorations out and we won't get our actual Christmas tree for a while, so I feel like it's not too overboard, right? Anyway, linking up with Mattie & Jenn today, and Joey tomorrow!

A few things I've learned recently...

  • I decided to measure out a single serving (according to the box) of cereal and realized my idea of one serving is actually like 4. I probably need to chill out on the amount of cinnamon Chex I've been eating or maybe just don't measure your cereal?
  • Pretty Little Liars is best when binge watched without commercials to distract you, aka make you lose interest. That or the current/final season is just really bad.
  • You can be super disappointed in the last 2 seasons of a 4 season TV show and still be sad when it's over (Hart of Dixie, I'm looking at you).
  • You might smash your husband's finger between weights at the gym if you're too lazy to take your headphones out and mishear what he says.
  • You can go to Bath & Body Works during a major candle sale and walk out with only one candle.
  • But then you might go to Nordstrom and smell the Nest Holiday Trio and have to try even harder to remind yourself you don't need to spend $60 on candles.

More importantly I need your help regarding a new coffee maker! I've had (& loved) my Keurig for the past few years and I'm not sure if it's something with my machine, or my tastes are just changing, but I've been really unimpressed with my coffee lately. I use the same k-cups & creamer, but the coffee just doesn't taste that satisfying to me (unless I have it iced), which is a huge problem because coffee is probably my favorite thing about the morning! I'm not sure if I should try a fresh press, nespresso, or just a regular coffee pot, but I need a solution asap, because it's getting too cold to drink iced coffee. What coffee maker do you use/love?

  1. Oh man the candle struggle is real - that's why I only get ours at TJ maxx LOL!! We have a Keurig & Nespresso - LOVE both! xo, Biana -BlovedBoston

  2. I had to stop somewhere in the later seasons of PLL because I was losing so much interest. Good to know that the final season is the same and I'm not missing out!

We use a Keurig too, but we've also been wondering if it's time for an upgrade!

  3. We use our Keurig with reusable k-cups and I still enjoy it but I also have a travel mug french press at work and I find the coffee tastes a bit better when french pressed :) http://www.bodum.com/gb/en-us/shop/detail/11067-01/
It is definitely too cold here for iced coffee!!

  4. My regular coffee pot is so freakin' easy but I don't know anything else, so I don't know what I'm missing out on. And I've been trying soooo hard to resist going into Nordstrom and smelling those Nest candles because I've heard such amazing things about them and I have zero self control.

  5. haha your poor husband. gym mishaps is real. it happens! ok so coffee. don't even get me started i'm so into it. but i use a pour over coffee every day. i have a one cup for just me but i also have a chemex and i'm obsessed. i cant deal with keurigs anymore - especially bc of all that plastic leeching into my bod. pour over for the win. just takes a few min more but it tastes oh so good :)

  6. I've heard good things about Nespresso machines! I gave up on PLL a couple seasons ago, it just got too bad.

  7. I'm completely obsessed with the candles from Bath & Body Works. I love how they always go on sale and it's always when I have a coupon. Last time I went, I bought six candles. They are so addicting. I'm with you about the Keurig, the coffee just isn't as good as it use to be. I think I might get a french press and make coffee that way. The coffee is so much better.

  8. I totally agree on wanting to feel the holiday spirit for as long as possible, but I've found that for me there's a middle ground because if it's in full swing for TOO long, I get sick of it and it all bums me out, hah.

I think "don't measure your cereal" is the proper takeaway there. Serving sizes are for the weak!

I just use a regular old coffee pot and make a pot of drip coffee every day and my coffee addict self is happy with it. I never regularly used a Keurig though as my everyday coffee maker though, so maybe "going back" isn't a possibility once you have.

  9. We actually use a french press from William's & Sonoma for coffee :)
We have an electric kettle that heats up the water, then pour it in the french press over the grounds. Aaron loves it (I'm not a coffee drinker). I was obsessed with Hart of Dixie! So sad they rushed through story lines and ended it so abruptly :( It was SUCH a cute show. xx

  10. We have a Keurig and I went from liking so many different kinds of coffees and creamers to only liking one kind. The only creamer I will use is the Natural Bliss Sweet Cream. I cant stand any other kind now, but I still love my flavored coffees when I go to DD or Starbucks. Go figure. I don't have a nespresso but I have used them while visiting friends and in hotels and I have to say the coffee is stronger/better tasting with it. Also, I totally eat like four servings of cereal.

  11. Haha! I'm watching season 4 of Hart of Dixie now. Yeah, I don't like it as much as the first 2 seasons but I'm liking it so far. I'll be sad when it's over. I'm so over PLL because I feel like it's gone on too long, BUT I still want to find out the ending so I'll be watching it when it comes back on.

  12. This made me laugh out loud! Poor hubby! We use kuerig faithfully so I'm no help :(

  13. Candles are my kryptonite. Whyyyy did you have to show me those nordstrom ones?

    Agree on Hart of Dixie.

For me, Christmas takes place after Thanksgiving.

KCups, now matter what they are, are too weak. I went back to a good ol' regular Mister Coffee pot and I have a french press I use as well. Both from Target. I could probably find them if you wanted links.

  14. We got a new Keurig 2.0 and a Mr. Coffee Expresso maker as wedding presents last month, and I have to say, I am loving the expresso maker more. The coffee is richer and I do believe sometimes the coffee is weak with the k-cups. I still need to venture into the bigger cups now that we have the 2.0 and see if that makes the difference.

  15. My mini Christmas tree never got taken down last Christmas - I love the season so much that I like to enjoy it all year round haha

I was feeling the same way about my Keurig but I did a big clean of it and ran some vinegar water through it and now its good as new!

  16. A few years ago I actually looked at serving sizes on cereal and it was a huge wake up call! Now I only buy cereal every once in a while because my servings are definitely more like four servings... Haha. I feel like I'm not a big fan of our Keurig coffee even with my favorite creamer. Same with our coffee pot. I can tolerate the Folgers at work with my favorite creamer, so I'm not sure if we just don't have the right kind of coffee at home or what.

  17. You're a lot stronger of a person than me! There's no way that I can walk into B&BW during a candle sale and not buy all the candles! They're just so good! That sucks that you're not happy with your Keurig! We currently use a Tassimo which has little T-Discs which are kind of like the K cups, but they have a barcode on them so the Tassimo reads it and knows what to do with the T-Discs. You can make lattes and stuff like that because it froths the milk. They have pumpkin spice latte flavors which I'm loving right now, and the best part is that they have peppermint mochas for the winter!

  18. girl. i eat like an entire box of sultana bran in like 2 sittings so i know my serving sizes are WAY out of control and i don't want to know.
KC would be SO mad at me if i smashed his finger in between weights lol
i need new candles! i want a sale to happen online. hurry up black friday. oh wait, i looked online. 50% off? THANKS CARLY.
i don't drink coffee, but good luck! KC uses an espresso machine and loves it.

  19. I keep hoarding Bath and Body Works candles and almost bought more today. And then I got on Nordstrom's site and like you thought about purchasing a ridiculously priced candle. I digress. This is probably a stupid question, but have you cleaned your Keurig lately? I find that sometimes my coffee starts to taste off and that's when it's time to give it a good clean. And also our water! We haven't had a lot of rain lately so tap water won't work... I have to put distilled water in it and it makes a difference.

  20. i kick it old school and started using my Cuisinart coffee maker. I also have a Keurig but I kicked that to the curb a while ago. Now I set my coffee maker to brew at 7am each morning and wake up to fresh brewed coffee!

  21. I think I'll stay away from measuring cereal. I know I have more than just one serving. LOL! Hope you find a coffee machine you like. I have a Keurig but rarely use it...I think it's just laziness. LOL!

  22. I love our Keurig. It was new last winter...I don't know the model but I blogged about it last December.
I can't commit to a pot of coffee (usually 2 cups), so I stick with the Keurig.

  23. LOL at the cereal serving thing. I refuse to acknowledge that I'm probably eating 4x the recommended serving size, haha. We had a tassimo in the past and ended up getting rid of it when I realized I wasn't enjoying the taste of my coffee anymore (and I couldn't get over the garbage factor). I love my drip because it makes my coffee HOT and keeps it that way. That being said, we have been looking at the nespresso, and sampled coffee from it at the store the other day and I was sold! I had the cappuccino, and my husband tried a regular coffee and both tasted delicious! The milk frother that comes with some of them is amazing! I wish they weren't so pricey...but I would definitely consider getting one!

  24. You definitely have to share what coffee maker you end up with! I have read a few others say their Keurig is not working right at all either. Also, I definitely don't want to look at the serving size for my cereal - pretty sure that my full bowl I eat is way more than recommended!

  25. I use a Keurig but sometimes I French Press it on the weekends. I love October too much to get out the Christmas stuff just yet! ;)

  26. Haha so true about the serving sizes. I have learned to eyeball a true serving though.

  27. Oh my gosh I've been having the same problem with my coffee! I just haven't loved the taste. I've been drinking the Vanilla Chameleon Cold Brew and LOVE IT! I add a little cashew milk and it's good to go. It has so much flavor and isn't bitter like some cold brews can be! AMEN to being disappointed in the last two seasons of Heart of Dixie. I couldn't not watch it but questioned why I did every episode for two seasons. Have you watched This Is Us? SO GOOD!

  28. Today is November 1, officially known as the day when I start listening to Christmas music! So I don't blame you at all for getting a little Christmas tree out. Getting holiday candles is definitely essential but this year we had to resort to going to Homegoods to get our candles. That turned out pretty nice since they have Yankee candles there for half price, which is always great.

  29. Your tree is up already? I think my boyfriend would actually leave me if I did that! Haha.

  30. I love chocolate and cinnamon Chex mixed together. I haven't had it in a long time though.
I think it's way too early for Christmas stuff. No trees until December.

  31. We clean our Keurig religiously, so not sure if you've tried that yet? With vinegar.
But if you want another option I want to get a Nespresso. Have heard they are amazing.
And smashing your hubby's finger, ouch, haha!

  32. oh my gosh. pretty little liars is the worst. i had to stop watching eventually because unless you're bingeing it, it's reaallllyyyy easy to lose interest.
