Fall Goals & Plans

The beginning of fall is officially right around the corner and after an insanely hot summer that followed an insanely rainy spring, I'm looking forward to fall more than ever. While spring is more of the season of growth and renewal, there's something refreshing and exciting about fall. The above quote is from Gatsby and I realize Jordan's meaning behind it can mean a few different things, for me it perfectly sums up my feelings on fall. I'm linking up with Steph & everyone sharing their seasonal goals update.

Visit the orchard | This is one of my favorite yearly traditions. We usually pick apples, pick up some mini pumpkins, and stock up on apple cider.

Make an apple dessert | There are about a million desserts I want to make this time of the year, but I love making something new with some of the apples we pick.

Make caramel corn | On the dessert subject, I'm really hoping to make caramel corn this year. It's one of my favorite treats and I'd love to try making it from scratch. On the caramel corn subject, this snack mix looks delicious.

See the Girl on the Train | I'm not a huge movie theater person and I think the last movie I saw in theaters was the Martian, but we like to go to the fancy theater every once in a while. I think I only gave the book 3 stars, but the movie looks really intense and I actually don't remember how it ends, though I'm guessing it will come back once the movie starts.

Another 5k | This one is a big maybe-- I'd love to do a Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving, but there are a couple of other fall 5ks I have my eye on... I'm definitely not 100% committed to running another race, especially during a cold month, but maybe.

Just a few seasonal fun things for fall as I try to enjoy it without mentally going right into Christmas/holiday season mode. What are your favorite fall things?

  2. I love that quote, I come back to it every fall :)
You have most of the same goals that I do! I need to start teaching myself how to bake, haha. I'm glad I stumbled upon your blog!

  5. going to the pumpkin patch is one of our fall traditions..it's like an orchard/pumpkin patch all rolled into one. Kayla gets to pick out her pumpkin, we usually grab some mini pumpkin tarts and hot cider...can't wait to do that!

  6. I'm not a huge movie theater person either but Miss Kerri up there has somehow gotten me to see 2 movies in the theater this year! That's more than I've seen in like 3 years LOL. Girl on the Train does look good! <3, Pamela Sequins & Sea Breezes

  7. I'm not a huge movie theater person either, but I think I'll make an exception for The Girl on the Train. I enjoyed the book (until the haphazard ending), so I'm excited to see it play out on screen. Yes to orchard visits and baked goodies! Happy Friday <3

  10. Love your list! I haven't been to a theater since 2010. I just hate seeing movies out. I haven't even read Girl on a Train yet. I am afraid I am going to hate it so I kept putting it off. I plan to make an apple pie for the first time this year! What are you planning on baking?

  11. i think i only gave the girl on the train 3 stars as well, but i have this weird compulsion that i have to see a movie/tv show if i have read the book. when i saw the trailer, i was like if i hadn't read the book, i'd have no idea what it was about! perhaps i saw a weird trailer.
good luck if you decide to do a 5k!

  12. I'm looking forward to doing the pumpkin patch and corn maze with my kids. And I think this year we'll try to carve a pumpkin too.
I only gave The Girl on the Train 3 stars too but the movie looks better somehow, more exciting/thrilling. Emily Blunt is one of my favorites too.

  13. I love that quote. (Gatsby is my favorite.) And it's so, so true. Thankfully :)

There's a great apple orchard and winery near me that is absolutely heaven in the fall. You can pick apples and pumpkins, have a wine tasting, buy food and wine and cider (they also make and sell pumpkin apple hard cider—YUM), and picnic all the livelong day. So nice! It' definitely on my fall to do list too.

I hope you do get to do another race! Themed ones like Turkey Trots or other special occasion ones are always fun; this year I'm hoping to make an annual tradition of my local Turkey Trot 8k.

Great list you have here. Good luck!

  14. I really want to do an apple dessert too. I want to go get apples anyway because I want to try making cider from scratch. Might as well try a dessert while I'm at it!

  17. Holiday 5Ks are usually fun because there's more too it than getting a good time.
    Apple desserts trump pumpkin ones!

I want to see Girl on the Train, too. I thought the book was just kinda "meh"... but I'm still intrigued enough to see it in theaters.

  23. This is a great list! Oh man, that Monster Munch Party Mix looks amazing! I don't know that I could be trusted to have it in my house though, haha. I'm looking forward to seeing Girl on the Train too, although I love Emily Blunt and I did not like the character in the book she is playing AT ALL, so that will be interesting to see how I feel about the movie.
