Five for Thursday

1. I got to meet up with Alyssa, Kristen, and Tracy last weekend! Meeting blog friends was every bit as fun as everyone makes it out to be. So weird how it's not really weird at all when you finally "meet" people in person if that makes any sense.

2. I attempted an audiobook for the first time. The Silkworm... I say attempted because I just wasn't feeling it. The audio part- not the story. I got up to chapter 12 and I have zero desire to listen to anymore of it- I think the guy reading talked too slow and it was driving me crazy. Maybe I just need to try something else... any amazing audiobook recommendations?

3. My sweet husband-- who doesn't even like them-- picked up some Girl Scout cookies this weekend after all of my hinting. I haven't had them in years and they were every bit as good as I remembered. (see this post to see when I attempted a DIY carmel delite recipe)

4. I got another really fun Rocksbox! I especially love the color and unique shape of the Robyn Rhodes necklace (middle picture). And the SLATE triangle marble-esque necklace is one I would have never picked out but I really like it. Admittedly, the green one by Charlene K isn't my favorite- I tried wearing it a few different ways and I'm not sure if it's the color, or it just isn't my style.

5. I've been in a little bit of blogging rut, so I would be really grateful and appreciative if you could take a quick survey-->> here.

I hope your week is going well-- I'm so happy tomorrow is the first day of spring and I'm trying to ignore the fact that snow (a word I don't even want to speak into existence) is in the forecast. I know warmer days are ahead somewhere...

  2. Yay for blogger meet ups and gorgeous jewelry!!! I love the blue one! And the Thin Mints quote was so me last night... after I rode my bike for 8 miles. Definitely counter productive.

  3. YAY for blog meet ups and girl scout cookies!! Audiobooks have to be stellar in order for me to even get through them. If you're looking for a good one--The Good Father by Diane Chamberlain was fantastically done. Highly recommend as an audiobook!

  4. Blogger meet ups are the best. I think because if you read about them you know the basics already so it feels like you already know them so it's just fun. The e-card is too funny! With audiobooks the voices can totally make or break the experience. Sometimes a book with have a few different narrators, if not try a different book.

  5. Meeting up with you was the best! So much fun chatting away over brunch :)
I don't know if I can audiobooks either. I tried listening to Elizabeth Smart's book on a road trip recently and it entertained me enough for the road but I didn't even bother listening to it on the way back. She reads it herself so maybe that was the problem? Her cadence and tone of voice was strange for most of it. I initially thought it was interesting that she was reading it, but someone else may have actually been better.

  6. I love audio memoirs read by the author - Bossypants is one of my all-time favorites. I've listened to it upwards of 10 times (I spend a lot of time in the car)

  9. totally agree about meeting people not being weird when you actually meet them - it's like you already know them!!
i love audio books but i am SO picky about what i listen to. first off, the story has to be easy to follow, with nothing scary, sad, or .. sexy, lol. i know some people who listened to gillian flynn books and i could never do that because her content is messed up. i don't want to listen to that, i want to read it so i can skim / close the book when i want.
i like listening to comedians books (tina fey, amy poehler) and sciencey books that i thought i would hate but i loved and i really think i owe it to the audiobook because if i tried to read it i wouldn't have understood (the martian, seriously, loved it!) and then favourites that i have read before (austen, harry potter). my first audiobooks were the sookie stackhouse books, i loved them. i also like listening to classics - currently listening to to kill a mockingbird.
seriously, there are so many out there and i have listened to some bad ones and it really does affect your opinion of the book. i listened to the night circus and everyone loved it but i discovered i hated jim dale (who read it) and i seriously did not like that book at all, purely because of him. some books i listen to on 2x speed because they talk too slow, others i can't because then i can't understand them and they talk fast enough on their own. i really think the person reading it can make or break your enjoyment. i tried listening to the stephanie plum books, which i love, but i wanted to murder the person reading them because she was so annoying and stupid.
anyway! sorry for the ramble - you know i love audiobooks but they aren't for everyone. but i don't want you to give up after just one try!! i can send you some, i have plenty, seriously. if you can think of anything you would enjoy, just start with something simple / familiar first. don't give up! :)

  12. So jealous of your meet up, lady! Blates are pretty flipping fantastic!

I like audio books, but you have to like the reader, otherwise, no dice.

  13. Ah! I'm so glad you got to meet all of them. I'm meeting up with Paige today and I am so excited about it!
I've been thinking about listening to an audio book so if you have any suggestions, let me know!
    Survey=DONE. :)

  14. I haven't listened to an audiobook in forever - I think I'd fall asleep, ha! Maybe one day I'll attempt it again.

  17. So jealous you guys all managed to get together, I bet it was so much fun! If you got the Silkworm through Audible they are really good about returns if you didn't like it! I'm listening to Leaving Time by Jodi Picoult right now and I really like it - there are a bunch of different people who narrate so it gives it some good variety.

  18. I've tried audiobooks as well but everyone I've ever ended up with the reader either is too over the top with the annoyance of the tone in their voice or they are way to monotone to keep my attention. I have long-ish drives down to practice though so I would love to listen to something instead of just music at times. If you find any brand of audiobooks or just individual ones that you end up liking please share!! :)) and Girl Scout cookies are so wonderful! Billy bought me some a month or so back and Im still living off the happy:))

  20. I think I talked about this a while back but I listened to Leaving Time on Audible.com and thought it was good. I had tried Great Expectations before and just couldn't finish it, but Leaving Time was good. I liked hearing the different voices for each character in each chapter. I also liked that I could listen in my car...and when I really wanted to know what would happen, I listened while at work :-p So fun that you got to meet other bloggers!

  21. LOVE the blue necklace the most, too! Used Biana's promo code to try Rockbox for a month free so I'm curious to see what they send me. I'm too jealous of your blogger brunch and meetup. Love the ecard about the cookies too lol. Such a good hub, that one :)

  22. Blogger meetups sound so cool! I love your jewelry again this month. I bought some Girl Scout cookies from a coworker and am ashamed to say I kept a box at work and ate them all.

  24. Blogging dates are the best! So much fun! I actually do mostly audio books these days. I spend 2 hours a day commuting so I want to be as productive with that time as possible. So I listen to a lot of personal development books through the library. It makes the drive much more tolerable.

  25. Blogger meetup looks so awesome! I have only listened to one comedian book, but that was pretty cool. It needs to be easy to follow and something I really want to listen to. I've really only had one I couldn't stand listening to, but I wanted to read the book and it was the easiest way to get through. Hope you find one you like!

  26. How fun you all got to meetup!! Love that :) I've been in a little blogger rut too girl.. you aren't alone.

  27. I've been hesitant to try out audio books as well, I don't think I'm gonna like them too much mainly because I think reading it myself would be a lot quicker. I hope you can find some good audio books to listen to!

  28. I agree that blogger meet ups are great. You get nervous and then it all goes away. I still havent ventured into audiobooks. I think I could, I just havent yet maybe I just like to read words too much. Who knows.

  29. I'm so jealous of your blate... I read and love ALL of those gals! :D Going to take the survey now! :)

  30. What a fun bloggy date with all those ladies! Loving your Rocksbox goodies but I agree the green one isn't my favorite.

  31. How awesome that you got to meet blog friends live and in person :) You are NOT alone on the audio book thing. For long road trips, I try and get into them, but I have a hard time. Podcasts are still my go-to for long hauls because they have natural stopping points. My husband listened to Unbroken and the Gillian Flynn books and he liked both of those.
