Mascara Updates (Lancome Hypnose)

lancome mascara

Almost a year ago I did a post on my favorite mascaras (here), and thought I would follow up with another post to include one I didn't include at the time of my post.

I recently tried out Hypnose Drama from Lancome and first talked about it in my October Favorites post (here). Despite how impressed I was with it, I really prefer the original hypnose formula.

I don't know if I got an old tube or it just dries out quickly, but the past few times I went to use it I felt like it made my lashes feel really dry. Sometimes I like a more dry formula, but this was not a good thing for this specific mascara. I also noticed that there were giant pieces of dried mascara around the opening of the tube- so who knows, maybe I just wasn't totally closing the top?

Not having any mascara backups I quickly went back to my old favorite-- Hypnose. It's a bit less dramatic, while still giving really beautiful volume. The hypnose brush is my all-time favorite too- it's hard to tell in the photo but it's slightly thinner in the middle and really lightweight.

As always, I love Lancome mascaras because they're gentle on the eyes and they usually don't take too much effort to remove. There's nothing worse than wearing a mascara and having to tug at your lids while going through like eight cotton balls trying to get it off at the end of the night.

I will admit, that after realizing how wonderful the Lancome eye makeup remover is, I think I'll branch out to other brands of mascara over the next year-- starting with the L'Oreal Butterfly Mascara.

Do you have any mascara recommendations for me? Any that do amazing things to hold a curl?

  1. I used to love Lancôme products but I haven't used them in forever! I definitely need to check out the Hypnose Drama though! It sounds amazing!

  2. I really love the Chanel one- I got it for Christmas, not sure if I'll repurchase yet. I also got a sample from MAC, but it's not waterproof, need to see if I find it in waterproof. I've never tried any Lancôme mascaras, but the eye makeup remover I have and it's one of the best! Xo

  3. I've always wanted to try the Hypnose mascaras! I'm getting so sick of using a bazillion cotton balls to take off They're Real at night - I just bought another bottle of Lash Domination by Bare Minerals to use instead because of it. Or maybe I should just finally suck it up and buy the fancy makeup remover?!

  4. Ironically enough, I've tried a buttload of mascaras (I have a serious problem with smudging but hate waterproof formulas). After so many trials, my favorite is actually a 2.99$ bottle of the Wet n Wild MegaLength. It's a super wet formula at first, but after a week or so of use it dries out the way I like it--it makes my lashes look great and it actually stays in place ALL day long. I never have a single smudge at all. I can't even believe it--I really only tried it because I had it from a gift package, but I was surprisingly impressed!

  5. Great reviews! I try to stay away from high-end mascaras just because I know I'll fall in love with one of them and then be mad when I spend the money to replace it every few months. Ha!

  6. I've only tried Lancome Definicils, but I really loved it and was super interested to try Hynose! It sounds like a beautiful mascara. My high-end favorite is probably tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes, though I am curious to see how this new Benefit Roller Lash works out!

  9. I love L'Oreal's Voluminous mascara. I get the waterproof version because it's the only thing that holds my curls.

  10. Thanks for sharing. I honestly haven't ever used Lancome products before (I'm still stuck on Maybelline... don't judge, please ;) ), but I definitely will think about this one. Can I get it on Amazon?

  11. You should try Elizabeth Mott It's So Big! It has a similar wand style--slightly thinner in the middle. It makes me lashes soooo long. I fell in love with it when I got it in a Birchbox,or IPSY bag (I can't remember).

  12. I am always looking for new mascaras to try-it's my favorite make-up! I am currently digging Benefit's They're Real and can't wait to try their new one that will be released this month. I also used Uniques Fiberlash for a few months and was super impressed with the length I got out of it, but I felt like it didn't last long enough for me to buy another tube.

  15. i have never tried a Lancome mascara. I do love my L'Oreal one though - I use the normal voluminous not the butterfly one (didn't like that one). and yeah.... no curl here. sigh. my lashes are short straight and boring. i basically just add colour to look alive lol

  17. LOVE, LOVE Lancome Hypnose!! That's all I used to use an then it started to feel way too expensive so I stopped and switched over to drugstore brands. I honestly don't wear make up an awful lot so I'm okay with what I'm using but that will always be my all time favorite mascara and I may splurge on it again some day!

  20. I've never tried either one of those but I've vowed to stay away from high end mascara lol! I did get some samples of benefit's mascara and I've been really enjoying it. Otherwise I stick with the tried and true Maybelline Great Lash with the big brush. I must agree though, I hate it when mascara is too difficult to remove at the end of the night, that's the worst!

  21. Loreal voluminous million lashes. I swear by it. Give it a try. I promise you that even though its drugstore its one of the best (better than my MAC)

  22. Hate when they dry out your lashes. I love the Voluminous lashes, I've been using it for years.

  23. I've never used that one. Good to know though. I'm not a knowledgeable mascara person :) You know so much more than me. I like the tarte one I got in my Ipsy bag recently and a couple drugstore ones like Maybelline :)
