TRAINING FOR 2015 (on tuesday)

Here's a confession: one of my goals for 2014 was to run a 5k. I talked about it over and over again but never got around to even registering for a race. I made it about half way through C25K and I loved it, but life's distractions always got in the way. And I was lazy. A lot.

2015 is just a few days away so I'm starting off the new year with the same goal. I'm going to challenge myself to find a race that is before June 30th and run the entire thing. Easy enough, right? I'll check in with Alyssa and Tracy again next month with more details. I haven't decided if I want to try C25k again or what my plan to get back into the swing of running will be.

Two more fitness related goals for the year:

1. Barre
2. Pilates

Pilates is a little more realistic because classes are offered at my gym, but after Biana's reviews & hearing so much about barre from Amanda's blog I think I would really love Pure Barre.  With barre it's going to be more of finding the right time to try out the monthly new client pass so I can make the most of the membership because it's not cheap.

I'm so thankful for this blogging community, not only for accountability, but for always being so encouraging and inspiring! Make sure you linkup with Tracy and Alyssa to share any of your training goals.

Are you fitness focused at all for the new year?

  3. I'm so glad to hear that you're sticking with your goal of running a 5k! I have no doubt whatsoever that you can do it. I don't know a lot about Barre but I do know that anything else you do will be hugely beneficial for running. Pilates is a great one too because having a strong core will really help! With everything you've had going on lately, this may be a great time for you to get back to running - it's so peaceful and a great way to work through feelings. So excited to see where this takes you.

  5. Good luck with your training, girl! I'm sure you'll complete a race in 2015 in no time. :) I definitely need to get back on the working out train after a long few months ... here's to many lifestyle changes in the coming year!

  6. you can totally do it! i absolutely recommend couch to 5k again, seriously, i think i did it like 3 or 4 times and only once did i actually finish it. it's really motivating to get through each run even if it's just an app encouraging you, if that makes sense.
i want to try barre but it's just too expensive! maybe one day. i'm afraid i'll do the starter month thingy and then love it and then not be able to afford to keep going! and i've heard so many good things about pilates of course, its not quite pilates but i love love love pop pilates / blogilates / whatever her name is (Cassey Ho) on youtube.
Hope 2015 is an amazing year for you girly!!

  7. You CAN do it. I know you can! And I can't wait to read about your progress as you get there. I think anything else you do in addition to running, like barre or pilates, will help so much. And the right attitude will too, so I think you're halfway there! Getting started and breaking through those first so difficult, I want to quit right now runs is really the toughest part. Once you do that, it's cake :)

  8. You've got this girl! I like to sign up for stuff as early as possible, then it's paid for and I am more motivated to prepare and complete :) We signed up for Tough Mudder months ago and it's not until May. It's expensive so I'm motivated and I won't back out haha! I think you would LOVE Barre. I've been doing it this month, it's tough but I think it's exactly what I need to tone the areas I struggle with most. Definitely give it a try!

  9. Good luck, Carly! You can do it. :) these are great goals. It's not easy to stick with something when life gets in the way but once you get going it'll be easier to stay on track. :) pilates is a great idea too!! I'm in the same boat. I have to get back into gear and go to the gym more regularly.

  14. I found myself nodding so much to this post - I keep making promises to myself that I'm going to run a 5k and it didn't happen this year :[ Hopefully 2015 will be our year!
And I LOVE pilates - have you heard of Blogilates? She's a pop pilates instructor and whenever I don't have time to make it to the gym I watch her videos on youtube instead. She's great!

    Good luck!! :]

  17. Good luck Carly! The hardest part is getting started. You can do it and I bet after you do one 5k you'll want to do another. :)

  18. I loved Barre when I did it and have a Groupon I need to use 3x before January 6th with my mom so she can try it. I've never made it through the c25k program either and that was one of the things on my 30 before 30 I'm not going to get to complete due to timing and laziness when I had the time! Good luck on your fitness goals and I agree I love this blogging community and the encouragement is one of my favorite parts!!

  22. I really wish I had a PB close to where I live! I'm dying to try it! One of my goals is to just be healthier. The hubs and I are gonna try running (but neither of us are big runners, so we'll see). Can't wait to hear more about your training!

  23. Oh, this post hits close to home. I also planned on running one but law school got in the way :P You're being so proactive and I wish you the best of luck, especially since I've heard great things about barre.

  24. You can do it Carly! Pilates is such an awesome (and my favourite) form of exercise. It's really easy to get into and you will notice yourself getting more flexible and strong within a few weeks! I've heard lots about the barre stuff but you're right, it's so expensive, so I don't know if I will ever try it out.

  25. I want to try Barre too. Hope you find a class near you.
