Why I Blog

When Nadia emailed me about the Virtual Blog Tour I thought it sounded like a really fun idea. Plus it was the perfect opportunity to talk a little bit about why I love blogging since it's something I've never really posted about. Nadia is a Canadian blogger who shares posts on beauty, fashion, and lifestyle! She has great product recommendations & has swatching beauty products down to an art! Definitely check out her blog if you haven't already!

On to the questions...

What am I working on?
Currently I'm working on trying to find balance and figure out which days are best for posting. I've been slacking on beauty related posts so I have a few of those in the works & a lot of recipe posts coming up.

How does my work differ from others in genre?
I'm not sure... I think it differs because my blog doesn't really fit into a genre. I consider it a beauty, book, and lifestyle blog because I found that to be the best representation of what I like to post about. As I mentioned above I want to get back into doing more beauty related posts. Sometimes I worry about the random assortment of posts I share because I know some people really don't care for book posts, just as others aren't interested in beauty products, etc.

Why do I write what I do?
I write what I do is because I hope to make someone, somewhere happy. To offer inspiration even if it's in the form of a new nail polish, cookie recipe, or book. I love blogging because it's a way for us to know we're not alone. I think that's why we all love confession posts so much- because we get to read about the usually weird things other people do and we can say, "oh my gosh, that's me too!"

How does my writing process work?
I wish I had some kind of writing process. I usually crank out 3-4 posts at a time and go back and add photos later on. The amount of time I spend on a post depends on the type of post, but I have a ridiculous amount of posts sitting in my drafts folder just waiting to be edited and rewritten a little bit. Sometimes I get ideas and jot things down in a draft and never get back to them-- sometimes they turn into really great posts later on though.

I am passing the Virtual Blog Tour onto Becky! She has an amazing blog full of DIY's, outfit inspiration, and more!

  9. I'm like that too; I have a bunch of posts waiting in my drafts folder but I never post them. Then it looks like I don't care enough to blog. Ah well. Keep doing your thing, girl!

  11. I love that you inspire others through your blog :) I've been thinking through these types of questions a lot lately. I am finding a balance between writing about what readers want to read and being true to myself and writing what I want. It can be tough if you're just trying to please others.

    Love your first giveaway, Carly!

  13. Love this post Carly! I spend a lot of time thinking about why I blog, why I started my blog in the first place, my goals, etc. I really just enjoy writing and sharing things I love with others. I love your blog b/c I think you enjoy the same things as well. I love your beauty posts and any time I need a new book to read I know where to go. :)

  16. I just ordered the little 3 color Lorac set but who wouldn't love all those color choices!? Christmas is my definite fave holiday. Love the giveaway! And love your blog ;)

  17. I love that you blog! Obviously nails, beauty and books go together! That seems to be a common thread among a lot of us bloggers!

  18. I love this post - it's always so interesting to see why people blog and learn a little bit about the person behind it. Your beauty posts are some of my favorites that you write. I'm always looking for new products to try!

  19. I wish I had the concentration to get multiple posts written at the same time! The fact that you post about different topics is one of the things I love most about your blog! I know that we are constantly told to find our "niche" as bloggers, but I don't think limiting ourselves really does us that many favours. It's better to write what you want to write and sound genuine!

  20. Christmas has GOT to be my favorite holiday...followed closely by the 4th of July!

And- I love this post Carly- I think it's so important to think through WHY we blog, WHAT our purpose is, and why we LOVE it. Thanks for challenging me to think through those questions again this morning!
SO glad you linked up today!

  21. Love this! When I post I generally do one at a time, but I really like the idea of doing a bunch at once - or at least jotting something down when you feel inspired! I should start doing this... like right now, ha

And my favorite holiday, is most certainly Christmas :)

  22. Oh, I'm really excited for the recipe posts you have planned! I found myself more and more interested in cooking over the past year and I'm excited to try new things out this summer!

  23. I think it is wonderful that your blog has a mixture of everything!! I have to admit that when a blog is focused simply on one thing I feel like I lost interest in it quicker or I only look at it when I need something (i.e. I look at recipe focused blogs when I need a new recipe, or book review centered blogs when I need a new book to read). I enjoy the more "lifestyle" blogs that have a little bit of everything!

  24. I was so excited to see that you were part of this giveaway as well!!! I loved your interview responses..! My drafts are taking over! Hahaha

  25. Favorite Holiday is SUCH a hard question for me because I love all of them...especially those that happen in the Fall/Winter. If I had to choose, it would be Christmas just because I feel like it lasts more than just one day. It's almost all month long!

  26. I love it Carly! Oh yes, finding that balance. I swear there is nothing better than actually having a week or 2 of posts ready to go, talk about feeling accomplished :)

  38. I also sometimes worry that my blog content is too hodgepodge (books and travel and whatever else pops into my head), but that's what I love to write about, so I do! And I also love reading blogs with variety (like yours!).
